Episode 2: Hidden Dangers

In this episode, Dr. Wava Truscott, PhD, joins RCS’s Justin McKay to reveal what studies have found on the surface of lead aprons: bacteria like Staphylococcus, ringworm, Klebsiella, and more. These organisms cling to fabrics, settle into seams, and in many cases, form biofilms that resist standard cleaning methods.

To demonstrate just how persistent that contamination can be, the team conducts a simple test simulating how bacteria respond to common disinfectant wipes. The takeaway: wipes remove some, but not enough. And what’s left behind can still pose a risk.

Wipes have their place. But when it comes to infection control, they’re only one piece of the protocol.
